Two On-going Internship Opportunities!

The Piedmont Airlines Safety Department is pleased to offer two on-going internship opportunities for Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. Currently, we are able to offer the successful candidates wages of $8.00 plus space available flight benefits during their internship. This would prove to be a valuable experience for anyone interested in pursuing a career in aviation safety. As a regional carrier safety department, we are able to offer the intern exposure to all aspects of an airline safety department. One position will be based in Harrisburg, PA and the other will be based in our Salisbury, MD corporate headquarters location.


As an intern, the individual will become involved in the day-to-day management of the airlines’ safety programs. This includes interacting and gaining knowledge of employee safety concerns. Also, the intern will assist in the achieving of the corporate mission of providing a safe environment for employees and customers.

The position descriptions for both of the internships are as follows:

1. Operational Safety Intern (Based in Middletown, PA)

Organization: Piedmont Airlines, Inc. (d.b.a. US Airways Express)

Dates of Position: Available Every Semester

Time Commitment: Monday – Friday, Regular Business Hours

Summary of Position:
Assist in achieving the corporate mission of providing a safe environment for employees and customers. Interns will have the opportunity to learn about and be exposed to each function of an airline safety department. After successfully completing the internship, the intern will have an overall knowledge needed to understand all elements of safety.

Duties & Responsibilities:
• Primary area of focus is operational aircraft ground damage and employee injury investigations with duties in data acquisition and management.
• Research into known or suspected safety concerns, assisting in creating and giving presentations, reviewing manuals and conducting safety audits.
• Provide support for the oversight of ground safety programs and company accident / incident and injury reduction efforts by developing proactive safety solutions.
• Additional duties may involve interaction with other departments outside of Safety as well as some travel.
• Daily responsibilities include a large amount of data analysis, data entry and project development.

Qualifications:
• Minimum of one year of progress towards a degree with a major or minor in safety or aviation/ aeronautical science.
• Excellent communication and Microsoft Office Suite skills required.
• Organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, handles multiple tasks, problem solving skills, and the ability to set and meet deadlines.
• General knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations, OSHA Regulations, and procedures regarding airline safety.

2. Aviation Safety Intern (Based in Salisbury, MD)

Organization: Piedmont Airlines, Inc. (d.b.a. US Airways Express)

Dates of Position: Available Every Semester

Time Commitment: Monday – Friday, Regular Business Hours

Summary of Position:
Assist in achieving the corporate mission of providing a safe environment for employees and customers. Interns will have the opportunity to learn about and be exposed to each function of an airline safety department. After successfully completing the internship, the intern will have an overall knowledge needed to understand all elements of safety.

• Primary area of focus is reviewing, processing and investigating Aviation Safety Reports received through the company’s Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) and Safety Reporting System.
• Research into known or suspected safety concerns, assisting in creating and giving presentations, and reviewing manuals.
• Provide support for developing proactive safety solutions including the publication and development of Safety Bulletins.
• Additional duties may involve interaction with the Piedmont Flight and Maintenance Departments as well as some travel.
• Daily responsibilities include data entry, data analysis and project development.
