Job Opportunity!

The OSU Urban Arts Space has several position openings for the 2009-2010 academic year. These positions are all paid hourly (not work study) and are hired under the title Student Assistant. All Student Assistants are responsible for:
- Gallery reception and monitoring
- Serving as docents for exhibitions
- Performing clerical duties in database management, mailings, answering phones and relaying messages, providing basic information
There are three distinct positions currently available:
1. Design Assistant (8 – 10 hrs/week)
Assigned projects varying from the development of t-shirts, brochures, signage, etc. Responsible for understanding OSU and Space brand and logo use policies, developing concepts, gathering feedback, tweaking current designs, creating finished, polished products. Experience with Photoshop CS2, Illustrator and InDesign required. Portfolio review required. Visual Communications Design major preferred.
2. Education Assistant (10 – 20 hrs/week)
Works with Deputy Director to develop and maintain K-12 partners. Maintains and grows mailing lists of all performing and visual arts teachers in Franklin and contiguous counties. Creates a bimonthly email blast highlighting upcoming events that is sent to educators mailing list. Plans custom arts experiences in conjunction with current exhibition for school groups.
Is familiar with and uses the Ohio Fine Arts Academic Content Standards when planning programs, workshops and tours for K-12 groups. Develops self-guided tour materials for each exhibition and trains staff on leading tours. Fields and schedules all group tour requests. Experience with public speaking, outstanding customer service and organizational skills required. Art Education, Museum Education, and Art History majors preferred.
3. Media Assistant (8 – 16 hrs/week)
Creates, edits, archives and organizes all media for the Space, including but not limited to: video, audio podcasts, and digital photo archive. Responsible for training staff on technology use. Regularly synthesizes information for use in exhibitions and on the website. Experience with Final Cut Pro, iTunes, YouTube, Photoshop CS2, and iMovie required. Experience with Quick Time Pro and Studio Pro preferred.
***Because Student Assistants are responsible for monitoring the gallery, interested applicants need to be available to work during regular gallery hours (Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with extended hours on Thursdays until 8 p.m.) in addition to some evenings and weekends.***
