For Autumn 2009, the School of Phsycial Activity and Educational Services will be offering a three (3) credit course, EDU PAES 311, titled "Interpersonal and Coping Skills for College and the Workplace." The purpose of the class is to teach students the models and skills necessary for effective problem solving, communication and conflict resolution in college years and for the workplace. Interpersonal skills building and cognitive behavioral skills models will be discussed, modeled, and rehearsed.

The purpose of this class is to teach students the models and skills necessary for effective problem solving, communication and conflict resolution in college years and for the workplace. Interpersonal skills building and cognitive behavioral skills models will be discussed, modeled, and rehearsed.


COURSE OBJECTIVES:

1. Describe the communication and behavioral skill helpful for effective functioning in college and in the workplace.

2. Learn an interpersonal skill model effective in helping, problem solving and conflict resolution and management.

3. Learn behavioral and cognitive behavioral skills for problem solving, conflict management.

4. Discuss and Demonstrate techniques consistent with the theoretical models.

5. Students will have an opportunity for practice and rehearsal and gain feedback with the skills a class and with out of class assignments.

6. Discuss application of these skills to college and work environments.

7. Students will learn specific strategies for conflict management, and interpersonal conflict resolution.
