Recourse: A Response to the Continued Presence of Racism on Campus

The Black Graduate and Professional Student Caucus will be holding a forum in direct response to the racist letter sent to students in January and the face book page viewed by many African Americans in March. The purpose of this forum is to inform students on the boundaries of hate crimes and institutional racism. We also intend to educate students on the ways they can hold persons accountable for racist actions by highlighting applicable provisions of the student code of conduct . SINGLE PARENT STUDENTS! - Have your opinions heard and receive $20 to Giant Eagle

The ACCESS Collaborative Program will be conducting a series of focus groups during the month of May. We want to hear from you if you are a single parent and an undergraduate student at The Ohio State University. Each focus group will take one and a half hours and for your participation you will receive a $20 gift certificate to Giant Eagle.

Participation in the research is strictly voluntary. If you agree to the participate you will be asked questions regarding your age, ethnicity, college major, the age range of your children and questions regarding childcare, sick care, and support resources for you and your family. You will be asked to complete a survey that will take about fifteen minutes and participate in a focus group that will be tape recorded. We will protect your confidentiality by removing all identifying information on the transcripts and the tapes will be destroyed after the study is complete. Since your participation will be voluntary, you can refuse to answer questions that you do not wish to answer, and you can refuse to participate or you can withdraw at any time without penalty or repercussion. You will receive your gift certificate at the end of the focus group session. Writing Camp Instructor

Job Description: The Center for the Study and Teaching of Writing (CSTW) seeks a Summer Writing Camp Instructor to teach a one week course on writing using digital technology to create short multimedia pieces on issues such as education, poverty, housing, social justice, and voting and how racial and ethnic barriers contribute to these issues in their home communities. The instructor will develop creative and effective ways to teach critical writing, research, analysis, and interviewing techniques. The instructor will collaborate with The WOSU Stations who will provide training on audio broadcasting and news story writing and the CSTW digital media specialist who will assist students with web writing, development, and design. Two teaching assistants will provide classroom support in incorporating the digital component into the curriculum activities. The instructor will develop course curriculum, select instructional materials, track student progress, evaluate students, and provide inputs for the final report.

Qualifications: Experienced teacher of writing, demonstrable ability of working with inner city high school students. Experience with digital media, website design, critical and analytical writing, and multimedia projects preferred. Strong administrative skills are also highly desirable.

Writing Camp Teaching Assistant(Two Positions Available)

Job Description: The Center for the Study and Teaching of Writing (CSTW) seeks Summer Writing Camp Teaching Assistants to work in partnership with the summer writing camp instructor and program coordinator on campus. Advise (as needed) working groups of high school students (juniors and seniors) for one week on writing using technology to create short multimedia pieces about social and community life such as the causes of and solutions to racial and ethnic barriers. Specifically perform literacy tutoring, and assist students with classroom assignments and facilitating small group presentations. Supervise and chaperon students daily. Assist CSTW digital media specialist, The WOSU Stations technology advisor with classroom and camp tour activities. Provide inputs for tracking student progress and the final report.

Qualifications: Must be a good writer and have experience working with teenage high school students on their writing. Experience teaching or tutoring writing at the college level is a plus. Able to help students use writing as a tool for learning and for communicating. We seek talented, self-motivated individuals who can provide leadership and instructor support in a classroom setting.

Internship Opportunity
Exciting Spring/Summer Internship in the Entertainment Industry

e-Play LLC is currently interested in hiring motivated, energetic, personable students to market its new DVD kiosk machine inside retail stores like Kroger and Wendy’s restaurants during our Columbus test market this spring and summer. Our initial machine roll-out will commence May 1 and we are interested in hiring 5-15 students ASAP to assist in the roll-out.

Job responsibilities for representatives will include:

1. Encourage customers to try the machine

2. Training store employees

3. Monitoring store patterns and customer impressions

4. Act as a liaison between e-Play and each store’s general manager

e-Play requires representatives to have a car and be able to work 10-15 hours per week (some weekends included) with the possibility of full-time work during the summer. We are more than willing to find a schedule with each representative that does not interfere with classes (However, there will be mandatory weekly meetings on Friday, time to be determined).
