Little Guy, Big Surprise

Chris Paul and Jameer Nelson received joint player of the week honors for the second time this N.B.A season. For many, this is no real surprise in regards to Chris Paul whose amazing performance placed him in the runner up position for the NBA MVP last year. But Jameer Nelson has been turning some heads this season and becoming a fan favorite in the city of Orlando.

Chris Paul in his very young NBA career has become a household name. Last season was his big coming out party as he carried his inexperienced New Orleans Hornets to the Western Conference Finals. There's not much that needs to be said about Chris Paul. No matter what he does no one is really shocked, at this point greatness is expected from him.

However Jameer Nelson doesn't have such high expectations. Even with his College Player of the Year honors, Jameer Nelson was never really expected to become a standout talent in the N.B.A. Twenty one other players were chosen before him on draft night, and critics claimed Nelson was to small, and that he wasn't as quick as some of his future opponents. After Nelson's first few years in the league many fans would think the critics were right. But as of late, the 5th year starting point guard of the Orlando Magic has been nothing short of amazing. His Orlando Magic team currently has the top record in the N.B.A at 33-8. For the week of January 11th through the 17th in which Nelson captured his player of the week crown he stuffed the stat book. His numbers were:

Jan. 13 @ Sacramento: Tallied 23 points, 11 assists and five steals in a 139-107 win over the Kings.

Jan. 16 @ LA Lakers: Scored 28 points and added eight assists and six rebounds in a 109-103 win over the Lakers.

Jan. 17 @ Denver: Posted 23 points and five assists in a 106-88 win over the Nuggets
