Internship Description for Great American Insurance
Overview
Great American Insurance Group has over 5,000 employees throughout the US with roots that go back to 1872. Our Corporate Management Development Program (CMDP) internship provides college students with the opportunity to learn about the insurance industry, experience a corporate setting and be a part of Great American’s culture of integrity, accountability and customer focus. Great American's Corporate Management Development Program is geared toward top-level students who have the desire to hone their leadership, communication and business-related skills in the field of commercial property and casualty insurance.
Requirements
Internship opportunities exist within Great American’s Corporate Headquarters located in downtown Cincinnati. Internships typically consist of a 10-12 week period over the summer. Within their assigned business units, interns will work on meaningful, high-impact projects or assignments in areas such as underwriting, claims, product research, marketing and finance.
CMDP interns are able to meet and interact with Great American executives, as well as participate in activities with other interns, employees and leaders throughout the organization. In addition to the on-the-job learning that takes place, interns also attend financial overview sessions and lunch-n-learns to further develop their business knowledge. The CMDP internship is is an excellent way to grow personally and professionally, while making first-hand contributions to one of the nation’s largest property and casualty insurers.
Qualifications
Requirements include current enrollment in an accredited college or university with a major in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Communications, or Risk Management and Insurance with an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher. Prior internship experience is a plus and superior verbal and written communication skills are required. Candidates should possess proven leadership skills through extracurricular activities.

Required qualifications for the internship position
• Pursuing a bachelors in Accounting.
• Must be graduating and completing the required credit hours required to sit for the CPA exam (as specified by your state) between December 2012 and August 2013.
• Seeking a career in public accounting.
• G.P.A. of 3.2
• Excellent Communication Skills.
• Leadership and Time Management Skills.
• Ability to work alone and as part of a team.
• Must be able to provide own transportation and housing in the Columbus area
Additional requirements:
Attention to detail, academic excellence, passion for accounting, shows initiative and self motivated to learn all aspects of the job. Asks thoughtful questions and is focused.
Intern will work on several tasks over the 8 week internship. Many of the tasks that they will perform are administrative and require skills in Excel, Word and PowerPoint. During the first summer, interns may be asked to work in the Mail Room, Document and Report preparation departments, as well as work closely with our Administrative Assistants in supporting managers and partners. In working with the support staff the interns may help with document tracking, research on clients and preparing reports for the client. Interns also are asked to interview a member of every service line and prepare a report detailing what they learned about our practices.
Occasionally interns are asked to help the recruitment department by attending and helping to plan recruiting events. Interns MAY be given the opportunity to work on Client Service Delivery work.
