The Annual Historical Lecture
On Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at 6:00 pm, the Bell National Resource Center
on the African American Male will host their annual Historical Lecture Series in the Hale Black Cultural Center's MLK Lounge on the Ohio State University Columbus Campus. Our guest this year is a associate professor at the University and a civil rights advocate who has published a book redefining how we look at Mass Incarceration.
We are excited to have Michelle M. Alexander, JD, to deliver this year’s keynote address. Her talk will focus on her recent monograph, The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness. She argues that the imprisonment of many people of color in what many have called a “post-racial society,” mirrors Jim Crow segregation of the 20th century. Thus, creating a society that weakens the ideals of social equality and justice. Ms. Alexander will provide solutions to this ever growing problem and how American citizens play a role in strengthening the moral fiber of our communities.

I saw her YouTube video and I have been thinking about what she said ever since. I recommend checking it out and you will want to make it to the event even more.
