Hip Hop Literacies Conference

Scholars from as far away as Hawaii are coming to The Ohio State University to partake in the Hiphop Literacies Conference, May 19th & 20th. Featured speakers are Dr. Marc Lamont Hill, Teachers College, Columbia University. He will give a keynote lecture on Hiphop Pedagogy.  Dr. Gwendolyn Pough, Syracuse University, will deliver a keynote lecture on Hiphop Feminism. Toni Blackman, author, artist, and U.S. Cultural Envoy will facilitate the empowerment of women's voices through the Rhyme Like A Girl (RLAG) workshop, while lyricist Daddy-O, founder of the first Hiphop band Stetasonic along with Groove U Music Industry Arts College founder, Dwight Heckelman, will facilitate a workshop on Hiphop and Technology. Another highly anticipated workshop, Hiphop in the Classroom for Teachers, will be co-facilitated by educator and artist Speak Williams and Dr. Michael Anthony Williams. The conference is free but registration is required.
