Homecoming Parade 2008 - Friday, October 24
The 2008 Homecoming Parade takes place on Friday, October 24th, at 6:00 PM, starting at the Ohio Stadium and ending at the South Oval for a Tailgate and Pep Rally at 7:30pm. We encourage students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends to line the parade route for this 96 year tradition. The route will begin at Ohio Stadium, head east on Woody Hayes/Woodruff, South on High Street, and west on 12th Avenue, ending at the South Oval. With three grandstands, OSU Olympian Grand Marshals, t-shirts, buckeye beads, and rally towels passed out along the route, this year's parade will be bigger and better than ever!

Step, Stride, or Swim benefiting the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research - Sunday, October 26
October 26th, one day, three ways to battle breast cancer. The Step, Stride or Swim for the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute is your way to end your Homecoming week with a little sweat and a lot of heart. This event is open to students, faculty, staff, alumni, community members and friends. Participants of all athletic abilities are invited to participate as individuals or create teams!
Participants may choose to participate in the following events:
Step - Participants may choose to tackle the South Stands of Ohio Stadium and complete laps around the stairs of the spirited section of the stadium.
Stride - Participants may choose to walk or run a 1/2 mile loop around the RPAC and turf fields.
Swim - Participants may choose to swim laps in the beautiful McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion pool of the RPAC facility.

Walk A Mile In Her Shoes
The Interfraternity Council will be hosting the Walk A Mile In Her Shoes Event Thursday October 16th at 4:30pm in the Wexner Plaza. Derived from the familiar proverb that "you can't really understand another person until you've walked a mile in their shoes," we will be encouraging men to march a mile through campus wearing women's' high heeled shoes (provided) to raise awareness for rape, sexual assault, and gender violence. Registration is $10 which includes t-shirt and shoes. All Proceeds go to the Sexual Assault Response Network of Central Ohio (SARNCO)
Pan-Hellenic Association Sorority BBQ
Stop by our BBQ Wednesday, October 15 at 6:00 p.m. on the South Oval! Grab some food and mingle with sorority women, Recruitment Guides, and PHA in a very casual setting. Buckeyes Against Breast Cancer
The Collegiate Cancer Council would like to invite the student body to its inaugural event October 16th, 2008 at 6:30PM in University Hall room 014 to honor National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. “Buckeyes Against Breast Cancer”, will mark the beginning of the CCC Awareness and Prevention Series at the Ohio State University. The CCC-OSU is dedicated to promoting education on prevention and early detection. Topics to be covered at the event will include prevention tips, information on self exams, nutritional guidelines, and survivor testimonials. Please join us in our event. There will be food, raffles and lots of information!
Concert 85: Benefit Concert for AIDS Awareness

Mock Trial at OSU looking for student jurors!
On October 18th and 19th Mock Trial is hosting an invitational for 28 teams from across the country, and we are looking for students of any major to serve as jurors! Each round a trial will be performed, and at the end we are looking for your verdict and input. Trials will be approximately 2 and a half hours long, and there are two rounds each day. Also, President Gee will be speaking at our opening ceremonies on Saturday. If you've ever wondered what Mock Trial was about, what being a juror is like, or just want to watch some entertaining arguments, email ohiostatemocktrial@gmail.com.
Water EXPO
Water Environment Federation (WEF)/American Water Works Association (AWWA) Buckeye Student Chapter, a new student organization, is hosting the first annual Water EXPO on Monday, October 20th at 6pm in Room E100 of Scott Lab. The Water EXPO is a one-hour event open to all.
Special Guest speaker will be Director Chris Korleski of the Ohio EPA who will be discussing current water/wastewater issues (including what the Ohio EPA is doing to help), the future of water (globally where are we heading and what can we do) and water/wastewater careers and fields.

NABA 2nd Annual Networking Bowling Tournament- November 16
National Association of Black Accountants will be hosting its 2nd Annual Networking Bowling Tournament. Companies such as Nationwide, Limited Brands, Keybank, Chase, Crowe, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, Pricewaterhouse Cooper, Cardinal Health, and many more will be there. First place prize is $250 for the team of five who wins. A team cost $10 per person to bowl and this price includes games, shoes, food, and drink. Come on out it is the event of the year. ALD/PES Honored
The joint chapters of Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma recognize first-year students who have attained academic excellence during their first year. These organizations provide academic, service, social, and leadership opportunities to its members and prepare them to be campus leaders throughout their undergraduate experience. This past year, ALD/PES was awarded the Order of the Torch, designating it national chapter of the year for the first time in Ohio State’s history! Literacy Studies Graduate Student Seminar
The Literacy Studies Graduate Student Seminar hosts its monthly seminar on Friday, October 24th from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The seminar is held at the George Knight House at 104 E. 15th Ave., Columbus. The October seminar, "Science Literacy: Making, Communicating and Understanding Meaning in the Sciences" will focus on science literacy. A panel of graduate students from a wide range of science backgrounds will explore the definitions, use and future of science literacy within their research, their graduate education, and in their fields. Teach for America
For interested seniors, Teach For America is now accepting applications for the 2009-2010 school year. Anyone interested should come to an info session on Monday, November 3 at 8:00 PM in Hagerty 180 and contact Teach For America representative Courter Shimeall for a meeting: courter.shimeall@teachforamerica.org. Teach For America is a program that is open to all academic majors. It places high-achieving recent college graduates in low income communities across the country to give students the opportunity to succeed. Full-salary and full-benefits are available to all accepted applicants. The second application deadline for the 2009 corps is November 7, 2008. Visit www.teachforamerica.org.

Student Conference on Civic Engagement – November 7-8, 2008
Ohio Campus Compact will be hosting its first ever conference for students here at The Ohio State University on November 7 and 8, 2008. The 2008 Student Conference on Civic Engagement “Dream the Possible: Learn. Lead. Change.” Will give students the opportunity to meet other socially conscious students as well as showcase their community service projects to the entire state of Ohio. The aim of the conference is to increase student development, social action, and leadership through civic engagement and to raise awareness of service opportunities during and after college. Apply for the 2009 May Week Steering Committee
Held the first full week of May, May Week is a celebration for the Ohio State community presented by the Ohio State University Alumni Association, the Student-Alumni Council and the May Week steering committee. This week-long celebration serves to showcase campus organizations and departments through events, which link students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
The steering committee is selected through an application and interview process. Applications are available at http://sac.ohiostatealumni.org/membership/May%20Week%202009%20Steering%20Committee%20Application.doc Applications are due by 5PM on Friday, October 24th, 2008. Volunteer as mock victim for COSI
Community “Emergency Day” Volunteers are needed for COSI on Saturday, October 18, 2008. Volunteers will serve as “moulage” victims each playing a role during a simulated emergency. Moulage is the art of applying mock injuries for the purpose of training Emergency Response Teams and other medical staff. Individuals must be able to sit still for up to 1 hour for extreme makeup or up to 15 minutes for more minor makeup and wear old clothing that can be altered, stained, and perhaps discarded. Interested individuals should contact Barbara Ludden (Manager of Volunteer Recruitment and Training) at bludden@mail.cosi.org or (614) 228-2674, ext 2174. Scheduling will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Also, please include your organization or department name in the email, and contact information for an individual. Student Conference on Civic Engagement – November 7-8, 2008
Ohio Campus Compact will be hosting its first ever conference for students here at The Ohio State University on November 7 and 8, 2008. The 2008 Student Conference on Civic Engagement “Dream the Possible: Learn. Lead. Change.” Will give students the opportunity to meet other socially conscious students as well as showcase their community service projects to the entire state of Ohio. The aim of the conference is to increase student development, social action, and leadership through civic engagement and to raise awareness of service opportunities during and after college. Apply for the 2009 May Week Steering Committee
Held the first full week of May, May Week is a celebration for the Ohio State community presented by the Ohio State University Alumni Association, the Student-Alumni Council and the May Week steering committee. This week-long celebration serves to showcase campus organizations and departments through events, which link students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
The steering committee is selected through an application and interview process. Applications are available at http://sac.ohiostatealumni.org/membership/May%20Week%202009%20Steering%20Committee%20Application.doc Applications are due by 5PM on Friday, October 24th, 2008. The applications can be turned in to the Ohio Union Information Center or emailed to Priyanka Joshi (joshi.68@osu.edu).
Volunteer as mock victim for COSI
Community “Emergency Day” Volunteers are needed for COSI on Saturday, October 18, 2008. Volunteers will serve as “moulage” victims each playing a role during a simulated emergency. Moulage is the art of applying mock injuries for the purpose of training Emergency Response Teams and other medical staff. Individuals must be able to sit still for up to 1 hour for extreme makeup or up to 15 minutes for more minor makeup and wear old clothing that can be altered, stained, and perhaps discarded. Interested individuals should contact Barbara Ludden (Manager of Volunteer Recruitment and Training) at bludden@mail.cosi.org or (614) 228-2674, ext 2174. Scheduling will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.

If your organization is sponsoring an event or program, it can be advertised in the SOURCE Bulletin. All submissions must be around 100-150 words and be written exactly how you want them to appear. Also, please include your organization or department name in the email, and contact information for an individual. Due to space restrictions, we may not able to include announcements for multiple weeks. Send to source@osu.edu by Monday, 5 pm to be included in that week's Bulletin.
