Law Clerk Position at ACLU of Ohio Foundation

 The American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio Foundation is a non-profit organization devoted to preserving and protecting the Bill of Rights through litigation, public education and public policy. The organization is funded solely through individual contributions and occasional foundation grants.

Job Description:                Research issues of public policy.  Legislative work including analysis of pending bills and drafting of model bills.  Support our coalition efforts with research and the development of materials.  Help further develop our “Know Your Rights” materials and presentations.  Some general legal research and writing, usually related to constitutional law and federal litigation.  Other duties not directly associated with traditional legal work.

Skills/Experience:              Some coursework in constitutional law, legal writing and research and an interest in civil liberties and social justice. Interest in state and local legislation and the legislative process.  Coursework in First Amendment rights, criminal procedure, or federal practice would be helpful.  Strong writing skills, the ability to handle research projects without excessive supervision and an interest in legal education for consumers would be helpful.  Comfort with public speaking.  Commitment to civil liberties for all imperative.

                                       Second-year students with an interest in staying on in a paid position with the ACLU through the summer of 2011 will receive preference.

Terms of Employment:        Hours are flexible and typically arranged around the student's class schedule.  $12 per hour.  About 10 hours a week during the school year, increased to 30 hours a week during the summer.  Preference for those with Monday-Thursday availability.
