Why Do African American Men Go To College
Have you ever given consideration to why of all the people you know, you were afforded the opportunity to be able to attend college? Have you considered the old proverb "to whom much is given, much is required"? What motivates you as you make your way from the freshman year to graduation? Does it have anything to do with making life better for those who look like you or share a common heritage? In all your getting.............have you gotten to the point where your relationships are built on integrity? Do people respect your word? Again I ask you what motivates you to finish college. Look at the list below and respond based on your heart.
1. Money
2. Women
3. Cars
4. Your Community
5. Fame
6. Religion
7. Giving Back
I look forward to hearing from you.

Fame and giving back, is all good but "self" is important too in education. You have to be if strong mind to want it and also have the drive for it. So all my African American Men out there, go for yours. It's the right move higher education is the right move.

As i come closer to graduation in the fall I find that my education has empowered me. I will be the first in my family to graduate from college. There were times when i wanted to give up, and at a point chased other dreams. But i know it was because of my familial network that i came through. When i say my education has empowered me, i know that because of my education it will provide me the opportunity to interact with people that can possibly catapult me into my purpose. My education has afforded me the opportunity to get past the"gatekeepers" and nay sayers that as African American males face daily.
