African American Weekly Callendar
Here is a listing of some of the events going on around campus this week that involve or are pertinent to the African American community. If you have time in between classes and other commitments please come out to support our brothers and sisters in their endeavors.

Dr. Rebecca Wanzo, Assistant Professor of Women's Studies and African American and African Studies, will discuss Sam Milai’s cartoons. Dr. Wanzo received her Ph.D. in English from Duke University. Her research interests include theories of race and ethnicity, African American literature and culture, critical race theory, and popular culture-- particularly the history of popular genre fiction in the U.S., comics, and representations of African Americans on television and film. Her current book project examines how sympathetic depictions of the oppressed in literature and other media have influenced politics.

Renewed Vessels Bible Study will meet at the Hale Center in Room 134 at 6:30pm to go over to St. John Arena as a group.

Based on a true story, IRON JAWED ANGELS depicts “the struggle of suffragists who fought for the passage of the 19th Amendment. Focusing on two defiant women, Alice Paul and Lucy Burns, the film shows how these activists broke from the mainstream women’s rights movement and created a more radical wing, daring to push the boundaries of political protest to secure women’s voting rights in 1920. . . . . The women are thrown in jail, with an ensuing hunger strike making headline news. A group for men of African descent to dialogue about the unique issues, experiences, and perspectives they face on OSU's campus and beyond. Topics will include academics, identity, relationships, and others relevant to the group. Because your voice is a part of our voice so make it count.
