OSU and Otterbein College Host Japanese-American Internment Events
The OSU Asian American Studies Program is partnering with Otterbein College’s Creative Writing Program to organize two commemorations of the World War II internment of Japanese Americans. The event is open to the public and will feature the lives and writings of OSU Professor Emerita Toyo Suyemoto (1916-2003) and the current Poet Laureate of Oregon, Lawson Inada. Honors Contract Program
Applications for the Honors Contract Program are now available at the following web site:

Students may apply for admission if they have at least a 3.50 GPA (4 point scale) and have earned 90 hours (Rank 3) by Autumn 2008. Students must be admitted to the Fisher College of Business no later than Spring 2008. Applicants will be chosen based on academic excellence, leadership, extracurricular activities, work experience, and personal statement.

Ohio Board of Regents Graduate/Professional Fellowship
The Ohio Board of Regents Graduate/Professional Fellowships recognizes students who are residents of Ohio, graduating from an Ohio university, and planning to pursue graduate/professional studies within the state. 70 Fellowships are awarded annually state-wide, which include a $3,500 scholarship renewable for a second year ($7,000 total). Students may apply for this award as graduating seniors and must apply through the Honors Collegium. Applications can be picked up from the Honors Collegium in 301 Enarson Hall and are due February 1.

The national title tournament games will be played March 13th through March 15, 2008 at The Ohio State University- Recreation and Physical Activity Center- RPAC. 337 W. 17th Avenue, Columbus Ohio 43210.
The NWBA D3 tournament is open for all D3 teams who apply in accordance with D3 Guidelines. The tournament is a 24 team, first come-first served double elimination invitational tournament. The games will be played on three courts in the Tom Davis exhibition gym.

STUDENT ALUMNI COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Every year the Student Alumni Council grants scholarships to Ohio State students who are engaged in the student experience at the University and who demonstrate a sincere desire to stay connected as an undergraduate and an alumnus. This year SAC will be handing out four scholarships two scholarships each awarded to freshmen and upperclassmen. The first place winner for each level will receive $1000 and the second place winner will receive $500. The ideal applicant will be someone who embodies the true spirit of a buckeye and recognizes the benefits of being a future active alumnus. Following the outbreak of World War II, President Franklin Roosevelt signed an executive order on Feb. 19, 1942 that resulted in the incarceration of 120,000 Japanese Americans from the West Coast of the United States. Suspected of harboring loyalties to Japan due to their racial affinity, these individuals were removed en masse from their homes and relocated to camps surrounded by barbed wire and armed guards. The U.S. government has since apologized for this violation of civil liberties, yet this painful episode remains understudied in our school curriculum. To help us remember and understand the impact of this World War II incarceration, the Otterbein College English Department and the OSU Asian American Studies Program are sponsoring two commemorations of the World War II internment of Japanese Americans by celebrating the lives and writings of Toyo Suyemoto (1916-2003) and Lawson Inada.

The OSU Asian American Studies Program is partnering with Otterbein College’s Creative Writing Program to organize two commemorations of the World War II internment of Japanese Americans. The event is open to the public and will feature the lives and writings of OSU Professor Emerita Toyo Suyemoto (1916-2003) and the current Poet Laureate of Oregon, Lawson Inada. Ohio Board of Regents Graduate/Professional Fellowship
The Ohio Board of Regents Graduate/Professional Fellowships recognizes students who are residents of Ohio, graduating from an Ohio university, and planning to pursue graduate/professional studies within the state. 70 Fellowships are awarded annually state-wide, which include a $3,500 scholarship renewable for a second year ($7,000 total). Students may apply for this award as graduating seniors and must apply through the Honors Collegium. The NWBA D3 tournament is open for all D3 teams who apply in accordance with D3 Guidelines. The tournament is a 24 team, first come-first served double elimination invitational tournament. The games will be played on three courts in the Tom Davis exhibition gym.

The Annual BuckeyeThon is back!
BuckeyeThon is a 14-hour dance marathon on the OSU campus to raise money for Nationwide Children's Hospital in downtown Columbus. Over 400 students will be packing into the Tom Davis Gym at the RPAC on Saturday, February 16th from 12noon - 2am for the event. The Priority Deadline for scholarship funding is quickly approaching for the Institute on Philanthropy and Voluntary Service, a dynamic summer program for undergraduate students interested in volunteerism and careers in the nonprofit sector. A substantial amount of scholarship funding is still available and over half of all students accepted to the program receive a scholarship. STUDENT ALUMNI COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Every year the Student Alumni Council grants scholarships to Ohio State students who are engaged in the student experience at the University and who demonstrate a sincere desire to stay connected as an undergraduate and an alumnus. This year SAC will be handing out four scholarships two scholarships each awarded to freshmen and upperclassmen. The first place winner for each level will receive $1000 and the second place winner will receive $500. The ideal applicant will be someone who embodies the true spirit of a buckeye and recognizes the benefits of being a future active alumnus. Following the outbreak of World War II, President Franklin Roosevelt signed an executive order on Feb. 19, 1942 that resulted in the incarceration of 120,000 Japanese Americans from the West Coast of the United States. Suspected of harboring loyalties to Japan due to their racial affinity, these individuals were removed en masse from their homes and relocated to camps surrounded by barbed wire and armed guards. The U.S. government has since apologized for this violation of civil liberties, yet this painful episode remains understudied in our school curriculum. To help us remember and understand the impact of this World War II incarceration, the Otterbein College English Department and the OSU Asian American Studies Program are sponsoring two commemorations of the World War II internment of Japanese Americans by celebrating the lives and writings of Toyo Suyemoto (1916-2003) and Lawson Inada.

Grants applications to help finance study abroad programs are now available from The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. 50 $1000 study abroad grants are available for the 2007-2008 school year. In order to be eligible you must have a minimum 3.5 gpa, have completed at least 45 but not more than 135 quarter hours on or before February 18, 2008, and have applied or been accepted to a study abroad program of any length travelling between May 1, 2008 and June 30, 2009.
